For those who have read my previous posts, you will know I signed up for this race last year. After convincing myself wasn’t going to be able to complete Fritton Lake.
I was looking forward to taking part again as it is a good fitness test to see how I have improved, hopefully! I joined Beccles Triathlon just before this race 12 months ago.
The registration this year moved a lot faster. With three people giving out race numbers, stickers and writing your number on you.
I set up transition with plenty of time to spare and event helped a first timer get all prepared. I remember someone helping me last year and it was lovely to be able to do the same myself this year.
It was raining very heavily at this point and I must admit I wasn’t looking forward to competing. However just as the race briefing was due to start the rain stopped and the sky turned blue.
Again the 300m swim was 6 lanes, where you did 2 lengths and then went under the rope into the next lane. You carried this on until you reached the end of the pool. I really do like this style of swim as you can relax and just focus on your swim.
Then it was onto the 17k bike lap. The bike route is really nice, it was pretty windy this year and I didn’t go as fast as I wanted due to the wet roads (a few people did come off today). However all in all I really enjoyed it. I was slower than I would have liked, however I am putting that down to the rain!
After getting off the bike it is onto 2 laps of the run course. Which is partly on a field and partly through the town. I must admit it did feel like I was hardly moving on the run, however no one over took me which I was really pleased about. Turns out I was 2.5 mins faster than last year.
I finished in 1 hour and 2 minutes. Was really pleased, however as always I tell myself I could have done better. Should have been faster on the bike, should have pushed more on the run etc
I never expected Scott to announce I was an age group winner. Not only that I finished 5th female, out of 34. Really was so pleased.
Full set of results are here (Note – I am in 6th place on the results online, however one lady took a shorter bike route which meant her time was not correct. Therefore the race director amended her time and I was moved to 5th place)

Would I do this event again? – This a difficult question, although I enjoyed the event and didn’t have any issues. Quite a few competitors went wrong on the bike and ended up doing a shorter route. This meant that the times were not comparable. So I think I would love to help out next year and marshal to avoid any confusion. Especially since this event is aimed at first timers.
Overall Score – 8/10
Really great event, fun and friendly. Just needs a few more marshals on the bike route.
